LIBERTY HILL, Texas —
As Liberty Hill continues to grow, Liberty Hill Independent School District is preparing for a major shift in where some students will attend school.

District leaders recently shared an update on the rezoning process as the district prepares to open three new campuses in the fall of 2026: Lariat Trails Elementary, Legacy Ranch Middle School, and the permanent campus for Legacy Ranch High School. The changes are part of a long-term plan to manage enrollment, relieve overcrowding, and plan ahead for future growth.

What’s Changing

Under current proposals, some students may be reassigned to new campuses beginning next school year. District officials said the goal is to balance enrollment across schools while keeping feeder patterns clear and transportation manageable.

For high schools, Liberty Hill ISD is considering continuing to use U.S. 183 as the primary attendance boundary. Under that approach, students living east of the highway would attend Legacy Ranch High School, while students west of the highway would attend Liberty Hill High School. District projections show this could help keep Liberty Hill High School under capacity over the next decade, while Legacy Ranch High School could approach capacity by the early 2030s.

The official campus for Legacy Ranch High School is expected to welcome students in grades 9 through 11 in August.

Middle School Rezoning Options

District leaders also shared two rezoning options for middle schools. In both plans, students from Liberty Hill Middle School would feed into Liberty Hill High School, while students from Santa Rita Middle School and Legacy Ranch Middle School would feed into Legacy Ranch High School.

The difference between the two plans centers on how elementary schools feed into middle schools. One option assigns Rancho Sienna and Tierra Rosa elementary students to Santa Rita Middle School, while another uses Ronald Reagan Boulevard and U.S. 183 as dividing lines to determine middle school assignments.

Elementary School Adjustments Ahead

Elementary rezoning will also be required to make room for new campuses. Lariat Trails Elementary is scheduled to open in August 2026, followed by Saddleback Elementary in August 2027.

District officials said both new schools are expected to draw students from Noble Elementary, which means boundaries for Noble will need to be adjusted. Attendance boundaries for Tierra Rosa Elementary, which opened in 2024 and has already reached capacity, will also need to change. Enrollment at Tierra Rosa was closed earlier this school year, with new students redirected to Santa Rita Elementary.

The district is also considering rezoning parts of the Oaks at San Gabriel neighborhood, which is currently zoned for Bar W Elementary.

Transportation and Traffic Considerations

In addition to enrollment balance, district leaders said they are working to reduce traffic congestion—especially along Highway 29—and provide efficient bus transportation in areas with multiple attendance zones and smaller numbers of students.

What Happens Next

Liberty Hill ISD will continue gathering feedback before final decisions are made. Community members can attend upcoming town hall meetings from 6–7:30 p.m. on January 13 at Liberty Hill Middle School and January 15 at Legacy Ranch High School.

New elementary attendance zones will be presented at a future school board meeting, and the school board is expected to vote on the final rezoning plan at its February meeting, according to district documents.

For families, district leaders emphasized that no final decisions have been made yet—and community input will play a role in shaping the outcome.

More updates to come as the process continues.
