One of the largest commercial developments underway in Williamson County is entering a major new stage.
The massive Scheels sporting goods store planned for the CedarView project in Cedar Park is now hiring up to 500 employees ahead of its highly anticipated opening later this year.
Company representatives say the nearly 400,000-square-foot store is expected to open in late August or early September near East New Hope Drive. Around 200 of the new positions are expected to be full-time, marking one of the largest retail hiring pushes currently underway in the Cedar Park and Leander area.
Scheels, an employee-owned sporting goods chain founded in the early 1900s, has grown into a national retailer known for combining traditional shopping with large-scale entertainment-style experiences. The Cedar Park location is being designed to compete directly with major outdoor and sporting brands like Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s.
The store will feature more than 300,000 square feet of retail space, 75 specialty departments, and over one million products ranging from hunting and fishing equipment to golf, bikes, and home décor.
But the hiring announcement is about more than just one retailer.
Scheels is one of the anchor tenants of the broader CedarView mixed-use development, a 117-acre project that is quickly becoming one of the most significant commercial hubs in Williamson County.
CedarView is also anchored by Nebraska Furniture Mart, which is constructing a 1.5 million-square-foot megastore expected to open by early 2027. When complete, it will be one of the largest single retail stores ever built in the Austin metro area.
Beyond the two major anchors, CedarView’s long-term plans include hundreds of thousands of additional square feet of retail and warehouse space, new restaurants, and a major hotel and convention center already under construction.
A full-service Marriott hotel is planned as part of the development, featuring nearly 300 guest rooms and roughly 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space. That component is also targeting an early 2027 opening, further positioning CedarView as both a retail destination and regional gathering point.
The bigger takeaway is clear. CedarView is not a single-store project. It represents a major shift in Cedar Park’s economic landscape, bringing new jobs, new infrastructure, and a level of commercial scale that will reshape the area for years to come.
As Cedar Park continues to grow into one of Central Texas’ most active development corridors, CedarView is emerging as one of the defining projects of that transformation.
